The premise of GCSE Sociology is to develop the students ‘sociological imagination’ and for them to understand the social world and our behaviour in it so that they will be able to have a rich understanding of the context of their lives, communities and their futures.

Sociology aims to give our students the opportunity and skills to think critically about the structures within society, both in the UK and globally, including their impact on various social groups. Our intent is to challenge students pre-existing beliefs and assumptions, helping them to explain social trends and develop their understanding of the personal identities of themselves and others.
